Preserved in this tremendous collection are eighteen vintage baseball club letters and two early baseball contracts in incredible condition. Such care and presence of mind was taken by the family of James A. Downey, the beneficiary of the (18) baseball club letters and pair of original contracts as each piece has been wonderfully preserved. The two contracts are from the Southern League, one from Memphis in 1904 and the other from Montgomery in 1905. All but two of the eighteen letters have the original mailing envelope and all are signed by team presidents, managers or traveling secretary. The collection, dated from 1905-1910, chronicles the many baseball teams from all over America interested in James Downey as a potential player for their organization. Each letter has fantastic baseball content and comes complete with letterhead from the teams like Montgomery, (3) Utica, (5) Syracuse, Jacksonville, (2) AG Spalding & Bros., (2) Nashville, (3) Terre Haute and Dayton. This fine collection of one manís short lived career in the minor leagues during the early portion of the 20th Century is unique and a must have if you love the game.
